A / NOE: Steinebrunn: Topotheque launched

Steinebrunn, a classic linear village, is located in the northern Weinviertel region in Austria. As a cadastral community within the municipality of Drasenhofen — which already has its own Topotheque — Steinebrunn has now launched its own dedicated online Archive. Fünfkirchen Castle, featured in the new Topotheque, serves as a reminder of the noble family that ruled here from around 1360 on. Due to the nearby border, parts of the village were historically associated with the Moravian town of Nikolsburg. Fishponds were established here as early as the 15th century; the earthen embankments surrounding them are still visible today. Although largely leveled now, these ponds formed the southern section of a chain of ponds that today constitute the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lednice-Valtice in Moravia. Consequently, the area boasts numerous architectural remnants that bear witness to its long history. The new Topotheque aims to document Steinebrunn’s history from the modern era onwards by collecting more recent historical sources. This provides a permanent home for vivid images — such as the one shown here — that capture the everyday lives of past generations, making them accessible for viewing at any time.
