A / OOE: Waldkirchen am Wesen: Topotheque online

Just before the Danube begins its curves through the Schlögen Loop, lies the community of Waldkirchen am Wesen, which is a scattered community consisting of a total of twenty-five villages. The name raises the question of what a “Wesen”, in German meaning “creature” is. In this case it seems to be an old term for an estate. The name Wesenufer, used later, probably does not come from Ufer (riverside), but rather from Urfahr, the ancient name for Überfahrt (ferry). A past that stimulates research not only for etymological reasons, for which the new Topotheque already offers sufficient material. Those visitors who are on the hunt for evidence of the family past will be particularly pleased by the large number of death pictures, as some of them give the paper names a face. Even in the early photographs of weddings, primates and school photos, many still nameless, long-deceased community residents are visible, and the Waldkirchen am Wesen Topothequers rely on the knowledge of visitors to identify them. This new Topotheque will already be a real treasure trove for many family researchers. Does anyone still recognize the holiday guests from 1963 who are delivered the daily newspaper here by the local postman, already motorized but without a helmet?
