A / OOE: Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn: Opening

A remarkably extensive Topotheque, which was set up in a very short time, was presented to the people of Klaus and Steyrling on Saturday evening in the Steyrling community center. A highly interested audience that filled the hall to the last chair and an enthusiastic mayor Rudolf Mayr gave the Topothequer Elke Kerbl no pause in finding the search terms called out. The initiator of this Topotheque, Christian Kerbl, who handed the stage over to his daughter, was able to take a well-deserved rest. The other members of his team were also available to provide explanations and information, but above all to refresh shared memories. The Topotheque of Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn was kindly invited by the LEADER region Traunviertler Alpenvorland to take part in the regional project, even though it lies just outside the region‘s borders, and so historian Sigi Kristöfl delivered the region‘s greetings. After introductory explanations about the objectives of the Topotheque by Alexander Schatek, the browsing through the memories could begin.

The Topothek team of Klaus has chosen to initially sort the entries based on the age of their virtual collection in order to show the rugged beauty of the landscape at first glance with a number of old views. The area was used as a hunting ground for a long time and it was probably in this context that a distinguished visitor came who deigned to honor the place with “the most present”. See who – a lady – it was and which name still bears witness to this honor today. Fixed points on the walk through this Topotheque are the timber haulage with rafting, the power plant, the lime works, the railway and a lot of evidence from agriculture. The numerous images of people at work, be it in the garden, in the factories or resting while driving cattle, paint a remarkably accurate picture of everyday life in the region, which will be a unique treasure trove for a wide range of research interests.
