A / K: Metnitz: Topotheque online

In the St. Veit an der Glan district, the group of Topothequers in the market town of Metnitz has put their Topotheque online. The community looks back on a long history. There is early evidence of the place name in 1072, when the upper Metnitztal was donated to the Diocese of Gurk. As part of a local expansion in 1973, the communities of Metnitz and Grades were merged. In addition to the sights such as the pilgrimage church of St. Wolfgang, Grades Castle, the “Dance of Death” Museum and the Customs Museum, the place has a privileged rifle corps, a vigilante group to which Maria Theresa gave the right to wear uniforms. The Topotheque of Metnitz invites you to preserve the history of the place and share common memories. Let‘s resurrect the “Dance of Death” performance from 1990 together in an impressive picture. The commercial history, which has had a strong influence on the townscape through the buildings – here the gas station – and holds many everyday memories, is also shown using the example of the Kerschbaumer company. You can click through the PDF. To quote Mayor Peter Grabner in his foreword, the Topotheque is also intended to enable young people to engage with the past of their homeland and thus develop a deep understanding of their roots.
