A / OOE: Aschach Topotheque online

Another village on the Danube, this time in the LEADER region Eferdinger Land, has put its Topotheque online. The first images come from the holdings of the market town archives and the museum association. The historical cornerstones of the documentation of a place are always the postcards, a large number of which can already be seen here. The changes to the Danube crossing, bridge or ferry can be tracked and private photos can be easily classified later. Visitors who learn about the history of Danube shipping will certainly be able to name many a paddle steamer. But caution is advised here, because many ships on the postcards have been retouched for decorative purposes, as can be seen from incorrect perspectives. Also interesting is the frequent retouching of the steam and smoke clouds, which, for example, in an early postcard have not yet been reduced by subsequent intervention in the image. At the time, it didn‘t seem to be a problem, and perhaps people were even proud to live close to the technical achievements. The traditional costumes and interpretations of historical costumes on the occasion of the jubilee of the market raising ceremony in 1913 are interesting for the history of clothing. Emergency money as well as memorial cards and passport photos of long-deceased Aschach residents, which can be valuable sources for family research, round off the new Aschach Topotheque.
