A / S: Saalbach-Hinterglemm: Topotheque online

The Topotheque of the Pinzgau community was ceremonially presented in the „Heimathaus“ in Saalbach and opened for public visits. The pictorial documents, which date back to the late 19th century, show the development of the community as well as the beginning and change of tourism associated with it. The clothing aspect alone can be fascinating in these photos: where is the interface between local costume and imported tourist clothing? Does the jacket of the community doctor, who has an intermediate role between locals and tourists – because he too is probably a newcomer who brought his habits with him – already have a zipper? Or is it just a hidden button placket? Is the belt in the form of a rope a fashion accessory or just a spartan fulfillment of purpose? Does his cap represent a headgear customary in the area or is it a personal souvenir that should not go down in community history as a local costume? But the young gentleman with knickers is probably already wearing a jacket with a zip. The ladies who accompany him still have to button, with a punched button and, again and again in fashion, a toggle closure. In the photos, which are of course primarily intended to document people, events and the landscape, this brief reflection on clothing represents historical by-catch that can stimulate further activity. Here, in the Topotheque of Saalbach-Hinterglemm, this is made quite easy for the visitors, because the exemplary keywording with the search term „Tracht“ releases all images with traditional clothing. If you then sort them by „age oldest“, you get an impressive chronological overview of the clothing tradition. Judging by the great interest in the opening event, the treasure trove of images will continue to grow rapidly, which the Topothequers Monika Mittermayer, Berta Wallner and Beate Aigner, who are scientifically supported by Angelika Gautsch, are already looking forward to.
