A / K: Hüttenberg: Topotheque online

Village and mountain bear the same name, here, where ore was processed into iron from ancient times until the beginning of the 20th century. Iron ore is just one of the minerals found at this geologically special site. The area around the Hüttenberg is considered to be the most diverse mineral discovery site in Europe, of which some examples can be seen in the Topotheque for those who are familiar with petrology. Where mining and production takes place, means of transport and traffic routes are required. For those who are interested in rail construction, the pictures of the „brake“, which is the term for a funicular, will provide just as good information as a view of the loading station with the light railway tracks. Together with the Topotheque of Bad Bleiberg, further historical images of mining in Carinthia can be seen here. As a special feature in this Topotheque, the so-called “Bodenhaube”, a traditional women´s headgear, must be emphasized, which is briefly described in this picture. You always have to take a closer look at traditional costumes in order to distinguish the original local costumes from the „department store dirndls“ that were offered in the mail order companies from the 1960s onwards. A precise description of the Görtschitztal men‘s and women‘s costumes can also be found in the Topotheque.
