Another Topotheque in the Steyr-Kirchdorf area, initiated by the joint project of the LEADER region Traunviertler Alpenvorland and the LEADER region Nationalpark Oberösterreichische Kalkalpen, has been opened to great public interest. Over 80 visitors were welcomed to the community center in Aschach for the presentation. Mayor Ralf Rosenegger opened the evening, and LEADER Manager Felix Fößleitner and Alexander Schatek explained the benefits of the Topotheque before delving into the already extensive historical archive. Topothequer Doris Graf, who also moderated the evening, then gave the floor to E. Seidl, who discovered her unexpected, centuries-old family history through genealogical research. The gentlemen of the “Tanzlmusi” band provided the evening‘s traditional musical accompaniment – to the delight of music lovers, entirely without electronics.
Behind the rather generic cover image of our article lies a powerful archive of historical photographs, offering a wealth of images of deceased individuals for genealogical research. It has often provided a face for previously unidentified relatives of earlier generations. Chronological sequences of specific buildings, such as the Bauernschuster house, can be easily accessed by sorting by „Age – Oldest.“ Thanks to the exemplary keyword system in the Aschach Topotheque, even photos with the building in the background will appear.
Similarly, the photos of the Kargl and Brandner department stores, which currently have the most entries, will likely evoke many memories of everyday childhood life.
