A / T: Prägraten: Topotheque online

The East Tyrolean municipality of Prägraten am Großvenediger has now put its topography database, containing almost a thousand entries, online and thus made it publicly accessible. Prägraten is located in northwestern East Tyrol and is the fourth largest municipality in the district of Lienz. With its share of the Hohe Tauern National Park, more than half of the municipal area is under nature conservation.

The so called “field name stories” provide an almost literary introduction to the municipality’s past – wonderful explanations of how generations of a family were often referred to by the locals. Insights into the 1960s are always interesting – in this picture, for example, you can learn more about the price per kilo of the then universally popular “Knackwurst sausage”, or here about the summer idyll at the Hotel Wiener Sängerknaben. This audio document from the 1970s about the Prägraten morning pint is a real treat for the ears. The mayor’s presentation of the community from minute 6 onwards is particularly lively. The musical accompaniment is provided by the Prägraten brass band, which looks back on a long tradition.

And so it becomes clear once again that everyday history is an important cultural asset! praegraten.topothek.at
