On 2 April, the presentation and simultaneous opening of the municipal Topotheque took place in Böheimkirchen in the fully occupied community centre of the market town. Over one hundred interested people came to see and learn more about old views and historical documents from days gone by. Alexander Schatek began by giving an insight into the basic principles of the Topotheque and how important and valuable the voluntary work of archiving these documents is for the municipality. This was followed by many interesting insights into the municipality’s past – images that the Topotheque team had spent countless hours scanning, uploading and indexing on a voluntary basis.
Particularly worthy of mention are images showing the location of the earth castle from the 11th century, a deed of ownership from 1186 from Seitenstetten Abbey signed by Pope Urban III in Verona and a deed of sale of the Eichberg mill from 1369. Thanks to Father Jakobus Tisch, a number of digital copies from other archives have enriched this Topotheque. Photos from the more recent past document the Postbus era in the 1960s. Who still knows the bus stop signs? And who can still remember travelling in threes on a tricycle like these children in the 70s?
The collection now comprises over four thousand pictures, documents, texts and videos and will certainly continue to grow thanks to the active support of former mayor Johann Hell.
