A / OOE: Pupping: Toptheque online

In the Hausruckviertel southwest of the Danube lies the community of Pupping, which was first founded in the 11th century, when “Puppinga” was mentioned in documents. A name that refers to the Old High German personal name Buppo. The local team has already put together an extensive collection to activate their Topotheque. Evidence from the time before photography shows the importance of the „Brandstatt“, the place where the ships docked next to the Wolfgang Chapel. Does this term come not from fire but from the surf of the Danube?

The tradition of shipping was continued by an early crossing, here called a wire ferry. Interesting maps of the river, which were made in the 1880s, have been preserved in the Eferding city archives and can be seen here in the Pupping Topotheque. The silting up of the river profile on the inside of the curve is easy to understand and the “regulating line”, shown in the floor plan drawing, is noteworthy. Perhaps it was this fascination with rivers and ships that motivated Franz Luger, a young resident of Pupping, to sail around the world. Back in 1869 a daring undertaking.

Among the architectural monuments there are pictures of the Wolfgang Chapel, at whose altar St. Wolfgang is said to have died, as well as photos of the two monasteries in succession, Auhof Castle and the architectural style of the municipal office that was so typical of the period after 1950. Pupping‘s Topotheque has very clear topic lists that quickly make existing search terms visible. Whether buildings, inns or clubs, the content is easily accessible – right down to the local airport.
