A / Styria: Liezen Topotheque online

On February 29th, which only takes place every 4 years, the Topotheque of the district capital in Ennstal, Styria, went online under the motto “1,000 times Liezen”. The entries cover both the city itself and Weißenbach bei Liezen. Just as special as the start date on Leap Day is the initial variety of images, which came from the Liezen city archives. From small shops, coin finds and elephants in the carnival parade, there is a lot that amazes, amuses, conveys interesting facts and is intended to encourage visitors to provide insight into their own finds.

Today, the town of Liezen, which was once dominated by crafts and agriculture, is characterized by trade and industry, but has always been an important transport hub due to its favorable geographical location. The city elevation ceremony took place in 1947, and in 2015 the city of Liezen merged with the municipality of Weißenbach bei Liezen. Both have a diverse history, which has now been made visible in the Liezen Topotheque by city archivist Katharina Ernecker. She is looking forward to being able to look into more private photo boxes with this new Topotheque.
