A / OOE: Ternberg: Presentation and opening

A new, full Topotheque welcomes us in the Traunviertel, namely in the market town of Ternberg, which takes us into the diverse aspects of the long past of this place. Of course there can be no photographs of the entry of the Frankish army under Charlemagne in the fight against the Avars, but a very old object proves the long tradition of the cutlers based here: In Trattenbach, a cadastral community in Ternberg, the old guild symbol from the the year 1660 can be found, in which even the blades of the pocket knife are shown. Incidentally, the production of the “feitel” (pocket knife) located here has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.
On November 24, 2023, the Ternberg Topotheque was presented and opened together with the exhibition of the artistic-historical project “Securing Evidence” by Otto Wallenta in the meeting room of the market community. Topothequer Bernhard Renöckl has worked intensively to make well over five and a half thousand entries on the history of the community visible. In this collection there is already a dense range from early historical evidence to the present: one is amazed at the early appearance of tourism, as documented by a tourist guide from 1871. We can enjoy fragments such as a handwritten record of the 1900 population figures and find contributions from all aspects of the past. Browse through the diverse evidence of industrial, craft and agricultural history and perhaps rediscover your own memories – perhaps from skiing in Trattenbach? The foreword from Mayor Günther Steindler is included on the journey through time to the Topotheque of Ternberg: “In a time when changes constantly influence our lives, it is crucial to understand and appreciate our roots.”
