An illustrated journey through the town’s history with local historian Thomas Haug.

On Thursday 19 March 2026, the Stephansposching Arts and Culture Working Group hosted a journey through time entitled ‘From the Neolithic Age to the Present Day’. Over a hundred curious visitors accepted the invitation and enjoyed an impressive illustrated talk covering 7,000 years of Stephansposching’s history.

The presentation began with images of archaeological finds from the Neolithic period, when there were already 34 houses with over 300 inhabitants in Stephansposching, making the village a major settlement. Thomas Haug created the virtual walk through the village using numerous photos from the Topothek. Photos over 100 years old taken on Donaustraße, the former main street, depicted community life in 1900. Images of the lemonade factory, the first school buildings, a glimpse into the old bakery and one of Lower Bavaria’s first kindergartens also found their way into the Topothek, as did pictures from the 1990s, such as this photo of the old, mechanical signal box at Posching railway station.

Events such as these help Topotheken to grow; ideally, they also attract further volunteers – but above all, they help to tell the story of the place and, thanks to the Topothek, to preserve and pass it on to future generations in a sustainable way.
