The eighth Topotheque for the Chiemsee region has opened its historical treasure trove online. The Topotheque for the municipality of Chieming in the Upper Bavarian district of Traunstein now boasts nearly a thousand entries. These range from ancient Roman maps and cadastral maps from around 1800 to numerous farmstead information boards detailing the history of old farms. In the past, farm names were more common and evocative, such as „The Thomas Fisherman of Chieming.“
The archive also offers many insights into the craft and social life of Chieming. Who would have thought that in 1930s Bavaria, there was a women‘s regular meeting at the local inn? Photos of the floods in the 1950s and 60s illustrate once again the forces of nature at work in the region. The Chieming Topotheque will continue to grow – check back soon!
