The Upper Austrian municipality of Altenberg, sometimes called the „Balcony of Linz,“ lies on a southern spur of the Mühlviertel highlands and offers panoramic views of the Mühlviertel region and – across the provincial capital of Linz — as far as the foothills of the Alps. With the launch of the Topotheque, Altenberg now also offers a digital „panoramic view“ into its own history, which, like many places in the Mühlviertel, is strongly influenced by agriculture. For the market vendors, dogs were clearly more working animals than pets, as these photos prove. Equally impressive is how the development of the town center around the municipal building can be traced through the photo series about the local butcher shop. Alongside the hard work, fun was never neglected — thanks in part to the Altenberg theater group, which has been performing since the 1920s! And many more examples could be cited—have fun browsing the new altenberg.topothek.at!
