A / NOE: Hollenthon: Topotheque online

The municipality of Hollenthon in the Bucklige Welt, the south-easternmost part of Lower Austria, has now made its Topotheque accessible to the public. The name of the municipality was first mentioned in a document in 1295 in connection with border disputes that were settled under Duke Albrecht. However, the history of the place goes back much further and is significant because this location was strategically important in the border area with the former Hungarian territories.

The Hollenthon Topotheque comprises around 200 memorabilia items, including a photo of the first motorbike in the village. How the rider managed to keep his apron snow-white remains a mystery. What is clear, however, is what is meant by ‘Steazn’ and why they were so strictly guarded. ‘Guglhupf to go’ was already available in Hollenthon in the 1930s, as this photo proves. The construction of the Gleichenbach elementary school is an example of how the Topothek preserves the history of the community’s development. Look forward to interesting insights!
