A / NOE: Hollabrunn- Magersdorf:Topotheque online

The municipality of Hollabrunn has now put another topotheque of its cadastral communities online. The Magersdorf topotheque is, if you will, the ‘youngest plant’ of the town of Hollabrunn. In order to spark further engagement, a very early online launch was chosen here. Now it is time to continue growing and to preserve the history of the cadastral community for the long term.

Magersdorf was first mentioned in a document from Melk Abbey in 1344 as Meingastdorf, a place near Hollabrunn. According to the ‘Address Book of Austria’, in 1938 the local community of Magersdorf was home to one baker, two innkeepers, three general merchants, two painters, two mother-of-pearl turners, two tailors, three cobblers and one carpenter. This handful of butchers may have been forgotten to mention – or had they already left? The ‘Mittegasse’ series of photographs is another good example of how the appearance of the village has changed over time. It shows the metamorphosis of both the alley and house no. 1. Pay attention to details that have been lost or added over time.

We are eager to see how many photos, documents, etc. will be added as contemporary witnesses in the future.
