In the Innviertel municipality of Burgkirchen, two events related to the Topothek took place on November 14th in the community hall. In the afternoon, Topothequers from the region, as well as interested individuals from neighboring Bavaria, met for a workshop with Alexander Schatek, who provided practical tips. During the course of their work, it often becomes apparent that some develop their own workflows and are unaware of several helpful features of the Topotheque input interface. To fully utilize all the advantages of the Topotheque, it is simply beneficial to update one‘s knowledge of the work environment and to observe others at work to gain inspiration for one‘s own practice.
The community‘s Topotheque was officially opened at the following evening event. Mayor Albert Troppmair, himself a Topothequer, spoke about the community‘s reasons for operating such an archive. Alexander Schatek presented general aspects of digital collecting, and Topothequer Gisela Schwarz then showcased the historical entries eagerly awaited by the audience as the main part of the evening. Besides numerous memorial cards that preserve the memory of the community‘s citizens, there are also interesting objects that are certainly no longer extant. These include a beautiful dovecote, a richly decorated beer mug, and „Froschgoscherl“ – the name for the gathered decorative trim, at least in eastern Austria. Does the backdrop of this studio photograph, with its weighted roof tiles, fit the Innviertel region, or does it reflect a tourist trend already prevalent in more alpine areas? Who can still decipher this studio photo?
