In the commemorative year 2025, the Geschichte(n)stammtisch + Topothek Garsten will be showing a photo exhibition on the theme of ‘The end of the war 80 years ago in Garsten’ during the Garsten Advent Days:
29 November + 30 November, and 6 December to 8 December 2025, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The focus will be on showing the effects on the lives of the people of Garsten. Visitors can expect to see documentation of individual fates, photos and memories from 1945 and the period that followed. From the flight to the air-raid shelters and the difficult conditions in the first few months to the return of the last prisoners of war.
The dedicated members of the Garsten History Club want to collect eyewitness accounts, old photos and documents and preserve them from oblivion. Anyone interested in local events over the past decades is welcome to attend the History Club meetings, which are held on the last Thursday of every month (except during school holidays). Whenever the history round table is open, there is an opportunity to bring photos from your own old photo albums for the Garsten Topothek.
