An occasion for a refreshing beer: the Topotheque is launched. This photo, however, still makes you wonder when it was taken. © Hedwig Jirak

A / NOE: Klein-Neusiedl: Topotheque launched

The municipality of Klein-Neusiedl is located in the district of Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria, not far from the Hungarian border and about 30 kilometres from Vienna. With its idyllic location and rural atmosphere, Klein-Neusiedl offers a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.

A special innovation in the municipality is the launch of the municipal Topothek, which is managed by a dedicated Topothek team and already has over 800 entries. Everyday photos, such as the one of the old tobacconist’s, bring ‘days gone by’ back to life – when people read the ‘Burda’, the ‘Kurier’ and also the “Express” – but who can still remember this newspaper? Or who can say exactly what was sold under ‘Samum’ in the same tobacconist’s at the end of the 1920s? Here’s a hint: it was in many people’s mouths. Photos from the periphery are also very important for a journey through the history of the place – it’s the content that counts, not the quality of the photo!
