Under a cloudless sky, the opening of the Topotheque was celebrated in the Drasenhofen rectory garden. Between the rectory, vines, and the old press house, all those who still had stories to tell about Drasenhofen‘s past or who wanted to learn more gathered. The hosts, Mayor Horst Frank and Pastor Richard Hansl, who opened the rectory garden for the event, welcomed state parliament member Manfred Schulz, who emphasized the value of preserving Weinviertel traditions. After a brief explanation by Alexander Schatek about the nature of the Topotheque, Andrea Calvin, the initiator of the Drasenhofen Topotheque and head of the local Topotheque team, invited guests to visit the various stations in the lovingly decorated garden. In the shade of the pergola, a screen was available to answer specific questions online. Detailed wall panels vividly juxtaposed various historical topics of the community. In the darkness of the old press house, there was a much-noticed video loop featuring Super-8 footage from the 1970s. While the festival was present, little is known about the festival of the past celebrated on this cover image. But that, too, is one of the Topotheque‘s functions: to capture knowledge about it.

The videos were shown in the old press house and aroused great interest. Here, one could recall the application of the “plague carpets” (Foot-and-mouth disease) from the 1970s. © Schatek
The answer station: this was where unanswered questions were collected. Visitors were able to answer many detailed questions. If you look closely at the Topothequer, you’ll see that she wears a button in the Topotheque’s CI! © Schatek
