Kaprun is a household name far beyond the municipal boundaries. It represents the Alps, the „mastering of natural forces“ in the context of power plant construction — claimed by various regimes — and it generally symbolizes the alpine natural experience in central Austria. While the initial images of this growing Topotheque, initiated by the Kaprun Museum and approved by the municipality‘s cultural committee, convey these striking metaphors, they also form the basis for the remaining material in this Topotheque, which will be contributed primarily by the local population.
This new Topotheque already offers a glimpse into a particularly aesthetic treasure trove of everyday crafts from the interwar period. Aspects of manual alpine dairy work, including butter and cheese production, as well as charcoal burning, are already on display. Likewise, the images of the construction and maintenance of the footbridges in the Sigmund Thun Gorge offer breathtaking views: not only because of their perspectives, but also because of the courageous work methods unthinkable today, which largely required no safety equipment. Further topics, such as the Kaprun castle, the power plant, and, above all, life and celebration in Kaprun, both in the village and on the alpine pastures still far from tourism, are in preparation and make it advisable to visit kaprun.topothek.at again soon.
