At a cartographically prominent location in Upper Austria, in the border triangle of Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria, a Topotheque now offers insight into the past of the municipality belonging to it. This is called Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald and is the northernmost municipality in the state. Within its municipal area lies the highest mountain in the Bohemian Forest, the Plöckenstein. In addition to the parish church and the Waldkapelle and Rothmühlkapelle chapels – the latter is shown in our preview image – the local history museum is also worth mentioning. A section of this museum is dedicated to the writer Adalbert Stifter, who worked here as a teacher and school organizer and whose perceptions were largely shaped by the landscape that can still be experienced here. Certainly, some of the images in the new Topotheque will facilitate an introduction to Stifter‘s texts, which, in turn, provide a remarkably dense portrayal of the people and nature of his era. Another interesting introduction to Schwarzenberg‘s history is the house chronicle from 1983, which is no longer published and can be explored online here.
