The Topotheque of the municipality of Hadres is online and now accessible to everyone. The market town in the Pulkau Valley in the Weinviertel is known for the longest cellar lane in Europe, its wines and wonderful cycling and hiking trails. Many of the pictures in the Topotheque tell the stories of the three districts, Obritz, Hadres and Untermarkersdorf, which are often closely linked to viticulture and characterised by a strong association scene.
The many private photographs, which show real everyday life over the decades, should be emphasised. What was important to people? The children, the occasions, the pig… As early as 1919, an expensive photo was used to show the size of the breeding animal. A smart uniform and everyday clothes were used as accessories: The lady in working dress, the man presumably in Sunday clothes with a stand-up collar and tie. Smoking, of course, and with shiny polished shoes.
Here, too, the monarchy sends its regards: what at first glance looks like a scaled-down version of the Musikverein building in Vienna is actually the school in the architectural style of the late Gründerzeit. A special treat – the depiction of the ‘classic’ distribution of roles in the late 1950s: needlework and reading the newspaper, framed by the new household helpers. And if you were a self-respecting lad in the 70s, you converted granny’s bicycle into a ‘cult object’ – who still knows it?
