A / NOE: Aschbach-Markt: Topotheque opening

The market town of Aschbach in the Lower Austrian Mostviertel district of Amstetten invited visitors to the presentation and opening of the Topotheque in the town hall on 24 April. Over the past few months, the volunteer team of topothequers has been busy scanning old views, documents etc. and uploading them to the digital municipal archive with keywords. There was a great deal of interest and the room was filled to capacity.

The collection already contains over two thousand items of data, excerpts of which were presented to the interested public. If photos are not available, old postcards often provide very good representations of the townscape from days long gone. The square photographs from the early 1930s, which give an insight into a middle-class house – from the kitchen, bedroom, parlour and living room – are an absolute gem. Pictures were often taken outdoors, and people rarely showed their living rooms. Club life has been held in high esteem for decades, as can be seen in countless photos from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
