A / OOE: Scharten: Topotheque online

With Scharten, another municipality in the LEADER region Eferdinger Land has now made its topotheque visible and, thanks to volunteer support, is taking care of archiving the municipality‘s history for the future.

The first written mention of the village dates back to 1225 and 1240. Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the village belonged to the Duchy of Austria from the 12th century onward. Since 1490, it has been part of the Principality of Austria above the Enns. The Topotheque displays the foundation charter from 1485, including its transcription, as well as photos of various celebrations, providing interesting insights into community life in bygone days.

Often, it‘s branded goods that make a place more widely known than its cultural past or scenic beauty. For example, many people will be familiar with the name Scharten thanks to the soft drink invented and produced here. Some photos from the early days of production can already be found in the Scharten topotheque. The product‘s subsequent triumphant advance throughout Austria can also be seen in some photos taken in faraway Vienna.

See for yourself.
